These delicious popcorn balls make a great sweet treat for your Halloween party guests, or can be wrapped up to hand out as presents.
What You Need:
- 4 qt. popcorn, popped
- 2 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
- 2 C of sugar
- 1/2 C light corn syrup
- 1 C of water
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
2. Place the popcorn into a large heat-proof bowl, and place in the oven to keep warm.
3. Put the chocolate into a heavy saucepan, and place over low heat.
4. Heat the chocolate while stirring continuously for five minutes, or until it is completely melted.
5. Stir in the sugar and the corn syrup until they are thoroughly blended.
6. Add the water and stir to blend in.
7. Adjust the heat to medium and cook until the mixture comes to a steady boil. Keep stirring constantly.
8. Continue cooking until a candy thermometer reaches 250 degrees or hard ball stage.
9. Remove the popcorn from the oven and pour the chocolate mixture over the popcorn. Stir until the popcorn is evenly coated.
10. After the mixture has cooled enough to handle, form it into 3 inch balls.
11. Place the balls on a wire rack to cool.
These popcorn balls make a tasty change from the classic popcorn balls many of us grew up with. To prevent the popcorn from sticking, dip your hands in cold water when forming the balls.
Makes 1 dozen.
