Savory Halloween Recipe Idea #5 – Evil Monster Burgers

These scary looking burgers make a great main course that are sure to keep your guests happy.

What You Need:

  • 8 (4 oz.) ground beef patties or vegetarian burgers

  • 8 buns
  • 8 slices of cheese
  • 8 slices of thin deli ham
  • 16 sweet pickle slices
  • Ketchup

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven using the broiler setting.
2. Spray a broiler pan with a non stick cooking spray, or coat with oil (coconut oil is good for cooking at high temperatures).
3. Place the patties onto the prepared pan.
4. Broil the patties for five minutes, placing them four inches from the heat.
5. Turn the patties over and continue broiling for six minutes, or until the patties are cooked thoroughly.
6. Remove the patties and place on a paper towel to drain.
7. Separate the buns and place the bottom half of each bun on a serving platter.
8. Place one cooked burger on each bun.
9. Cut the cheese slices in half in a zigzag pattern to look like teeth.
10. Place one piece of cheese onto the burger with the “teeth” hanging over the edge.
11. Fold one slice of ham or vegetarian alternative to resemble a tongue, and place it over the first piece of cheese so that it also hangs over the edge.
12. Place the second piece of cheese onto the folded tongue.
13. Place the top bun on each burger.
14. Use cocktail sticks to attach the sweet pickle slices to the top of the buns, to resemble eyes.
15. Complete each eye by placing a dab of ketchup onto the middle of each pickle.

As an alternative, you can grill the burgers rather than broiling them. This will create a slightly charred look, which will add to the scary effect. You could also experiment with using green olive slices with pimento instead of the sweet pickle slices and ketchup.

Makes 8 burgers.
