Halloween is a fun time of year, and many people like to host Halloween parties for children and adults alike. Just like any other party, a Halloween party is incomplete without food and drink. But if you’re the one who’s responsible for providing the edibles, you might not be looking forward to Halloween as much as your guests are! However, Halloween party food doesn’t have to be a hassle, as we’ll see in this article.
Often when it comes to hosting a party, one person ends up being responsible for most of the cooking. This person frequently ends up finding the party a stressful experience, and misses out on all the fun because he or she is stuck in the kitchen for the evening. This unhappy scenario can be avoided by simply deciding in advance that you will set a rule for your Halloween party – and this rule is that each of the guests should bring some type of food or drink with them.
So when sending out your invitations, make it clear that this is a ‘bring your own food’ Halloween party, and that the guest is free to bring an edible item of his or her choice, whether it be in the form of drinks, pies, desserts, cookies, Halloween candy or other items. It can be helpful if guests give an indication of the type of food or drink they’ll be bringing when they RSVP; that way you’ll know in advance what will be available, and if there are any gaps to fill to ensure a good spread of different items.
When the guests arrive, simply add all the dishes to a large table, and set up a buffet type arrangement where people can help themselves to the food that’s available. To create a more festive atmosphere, you could make a jack-o’-lantern centerpiece for the table.
Take this approach, and you’ll not only have a much less stressful Halloween, but you’ll also probably enjoy of wider variety of dishes than you’d have thought of cooking yourself. And if you feel a bit cheeky asking your guests to do this, don’t; after all, Halloween is meant to be a casual and fun occasion, not a stiff and formal one. And that means that you, as the host, should get to enjoy the fun as well, rather than spending the evening slaving in the kitchen while others get all the benefits of your hard work!
