Are you thinking of hosting a Halloween party and want to give your guests are super-scary experience? If so, read on and we’ll take a look at some simple tips for making your Halloween party go with a bang.
1. Start Planning Your Halloween Costumes Early
Halloween costumes are essential to any Halloween party, and chances are you’re going to want to put a fair bit of thought and effort into creating the perfect outfit for this year. However, if you’re like many people, you might end up leaving it to the last minute, and then getting stressed out because you can’t find the costume you want. Halloween is meant to be a fun experience, not a stressful one, so avoid this by leaving plenty of time to plan your Halloween fancy dress outfits
in advance.
By allowing enough time to put your costume together, you’ll not only find the process more enjoyable, and will create a better costume, but you can save money as well. This is because many stores increase their prices in the weeks leading up to Halloween. So shop early, and you’ll not only avoid the crowds and the disappointment of not finding the costume you want, but you can save some cash too.
2. Plan Your Halloween Party Games
It’s the responsibility of the party host to ensure that the guests are fully entertained, and Halloween parties normally involve Halloween games of some sort. While a few people seem to think that games are only for kids, this isn’t the case, and most adults will enjoy at least some games at a Halloween party.
When deciding which games to offer at your party, you’ll need to bear in mind the following:
- The ages of your party guests – obviously if children will be at the party, you’ll need to include some games that they’ll enjoy. Also, older people may not like the same sort of games as teenagers or those in their 20s, so if your guests will be of a variety of ages, you might want to include a wide selection of games so everybody will be happy.
- The types of games that you think they would enjoy – again, this depends on the people you’re inviting. Some people may like traditional games such as bobbing apples, whereas others may prefer Halloween board games, spooky charades or other types of game. And of course some people will just want to sit on the sidelines and not participate at all – a few books, magazines or a scary movie might make them happier.
- Any props and paraphernalia that you’ll need for the games. Make a list of any necessary equipment in advance, so you’re not scrabbling for the right stuff on the night.
- The prizes to be awarded to the winners – everyone loves to win a prize, but there’s no need to spend a large amount of money here if you don’t want to. You could pick up some Halloween-related items from the dollar store or on eBay or Amazon very cheaply, to provide your guests with lasting reminders of the fun that they had at your party. Some home-baked Halloween cookies might also go down well as prizes, or Halloween candy
if you don’t like cooking.
3. Remember The Music
Halloween music and sound effects are vital to creating a spooky atmosphere. While most children will prefer light music, adults will enjoy the genuine frisson of fear that a creepy soundtrack can create. While music is one of the biggest influences on the atmosphere you’re creating, it’s also probably the easiest thing to set up, as you can easily buy a CD or two of Halloween music and sound effects very cheaply. And of course, if you’re feeling creative, you can record your own music and sound effects for a truly unique experience.
4. Halloween Decorations
Halloween decorations are the final element in any successful Halloween party, and these can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. If you don’t want to spend a huge amount of money on your Halloween decorations, just pick up a few pumpkins and make them into jack-o’-lanterns with scary faces and designs. When they’re lit from within, pumpkin lanterns create an instant Halloween atmosphere, and incorporate both spooky lighting and a well-known Halloween symbol.
Halloween creatures such as bats, spiders, skeletons and the like also add a nice touch, and these can be picked up at the dollar store very cheaply as well. If you have kids or are feeling creative, you might also want to make these yourself.
A few strings of orange pumpkin lights around the windows or in other strategic places around your home can also add a nice touch to your Halloween decor.
Hopefully these easy tips have given you some ideas for creating the perfect Halloween party. Just remember that none of this has to take a huge amount of time, effort or money, and planning a Halloween party can be as enjoyable as the party itself, provided you leave plenty of time to get everything in place.
