Scare Your Halloween Party Guests With These Spooky Tips

If you want to host a super scary Halloween party this year, here are a few tips for creating a night that your guests won’t forget:

Get Some Halloween Music

There’s a lot more to creating great Halloween atmosphere than donning a scary costume or putting up a few pumpkin decorations. While these things are a good start, they’re not enough by themselves. Think about the horror movies you’ve seen, and ask yourself what it is that really makes them frightening. Is it the blood and gore? Not really. In fact, few horror movies would be truly chilling without their soundtracks. Yet when it comes to Halloween parties, which after all are meant to scare people just like the movies, many people forget about the music.

Halloween music or sound effects are essential for creating a truly horrific ambience, and with the right soundtrack you’ll have an authentic Halloween atmosphere even if you don’t want to spend a lot on expensive props and costumes.

Serve Up Halloween Food

Food is a must at every party, and since it’s Halloween, you don’t want to settle for just the usual party foods. Instead, take the opportunity to make the food part of the occasion, and indulge in some Halloween candies, red-colored drinks that look like blood (like grape juice, wine etc), and if you like cooking, try whipping up some tasty Halloween recipes, such as cookies in the shape of ghosts, pumpkins and other Halloween characters. You could also have a potluck party, and ask guests to bring their own spooky Halloween foods if they feel inclined.

Use Halloween Lighting

Halloween sceneJust like music, the lighting that you use that your Halloween party can go a long way towards creating just the right kind of spooky atmosphere. It’s best to keep the overall lighting quite dim, and then illuminate key Halloween props and decorations with spotlights. If you’re creating an outdoor graveyard or other creepy outdoor scene, you might want to floodlight it for best effect. Other great Halloween lighting ideas include those strings of little orange pumpkin lights which can be purchased cheaply and strung in your windows and around your home. And don’t forget about candles – when used safely these can be an extremely effective and cost-effective way to create that perfect haunted house effect inside your home.

Make Some Jack-o-Lanterns

Jack-o-lanterns, aka pumpkin lanterns, can also play a major role in creating the right feel for your Halloween party. Carving your lanterns and then lighting them from within may take a bit of work, but the effect is well worth it. Illuminated pumpkin lanterns also contribute to your lighting effects, and reduce the need for other forms of artificial lighting.

For best results, buy pumpkins in different shapes and sizes, and create a different carving on each one. You don’t need to stick to scary faces either – great looking jack-o-lanterns can also feature other designs such as Halloween spiders, cats and other scary motifs.

Organize Some Halloween Games

Halloween party games are another staple at this time of year, and the right spooky games will both entertain your guests and scare them even more. From traditional games such as bobbing apples, to specially designed Halloween board games, it’s best to have a variety of games available for all tastes. Just remember that if there are children at your party, the kids games shouldn’t be too scary, as most children don’t appreciate being scared too much.

As you can see, there are just a few essential elements that you need to get right to make your Halloween party scary success. We haven’t talked about Halloween costumes and decorations here, because most people will all ready have plans for these in mind, and in any case, there’s a lot more to a good party than the costumes and decor, so it seems more important to think about the other elements that contribute to making your Halloween party a night to remember.
